Business Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY
The business analyst will be responsible for researching, planning, writing, and illustrating requirements documentation for process flow, system design, and software features. The audience for this documentation will include business stakeholders, partners, management, developers, and software architects.
The successful candidate will:
- Work closely with the business team to plan, gather, understand, analyze, validate, and document requirements for new software features, software enhancements, and software improvements
- Act as a bridge between the stakeholders and the solutions team to brainstorm optimal solutions
- Liaise with the solutions team throughout the development process to ensure the deliverables meet spec, and liaise with the business stakeholders to ensure the spec continues to meet their needs
- Work with the quality assurance team in constructing test plans that adequately verify requirements
- Research and develop better ways to produce and organize business requirements documentation
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Post secondary degree or equivalent work experience
- Relevant experience in a software company as a Business Analyst or related role
- Experience utilizing various types of IT project methodologies and life cycles, including Agile
- Professional experience in the development or design of web-based or client-server applications
- Extensive experience in constructing use case diagrams, use cases, and data models
Knowledge
- Knowledge and experience with UML modelling techniques
- Knowledge of Internet technologies and Microsoft Windows platforms
- Some understanding of relational databases (MS SQL Server)
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical or complex ideas in a straightforward manner
- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and complete deliverables within specified time frames
- Effective team player with the ability to work independently
- An appreciation of end-user needs with ability to see the big picture
- Proven diagnostic, analytical, and problem solving skills
- Self-starter who takes initiative, requires minimal supervision, and can handle multiple tasks at the same time
